The Imagine Innovation Workshop, a micro-credential course organized by Prof. Sandrine Labory and Academic Manager Elisa Pampolini, was led by Julius Soutine, an innovation advisor from the University of Kristianstadt in Sweden. The workshop brought together 37 Unife students on 11 and 12 September at the new COLOURS Student Entrepreneur Centre (SEC) of the University of Ferrara. Organized by COLOURS Unife, this workshop provided a unique opportunity for students to delve into Applied Design Thinking, a globally recognized approach to innovation and problem-solving developed at Stanford University.

With guidance from the invited expert, Julius, the students brainstormed and proposed solutions to make SEC effective in attracting students and providing a friendly working environment, as well as high-quality and thoughtful activities to enrich their curriculum for the professional environment.

Students implementing Applied Design Thinking

After two days of work, the students presented their thoughts and suggestions, including:

  • Enhancing Communication Strategy: Proposals included more detailed online communication and implementing new technologies in the physical environment, such as installing interactive digital boards that allow participants to connect with their smartphones to navigate from their locations to the event. These boards could also promote the digitalization effort of Ferrara, helping new students, Erasmus students, and tourists explore the city easily. Brief information on attractions or events can be included on these boards.
  • Creating an Ideal Student Environment: Suggestions included making the SEC a dream place for students, with not only academic activities but also a healthy and friendly environment where like-minded individuals can gather, spend time, and help creativity flourish. Ideas included a game room, gym room, mindfulness exploration, and a 24/7 library/study room.
  • Hands-On Projects with Stakeholders: Proposals included hands-on projects with different stakeholders, such as businesses and industries. Co-projects with these stakeholders were appreciated and considered as a way to find concrete solutions based on actual contexts. Learning on the job through high-quality internships with COLOURS’ partners was also highlighted.

The COLOURS team highly appreciates the participants’ contributions and suggestions. All thoughts are taken into consideration. The COLOURS alliance is committed to organizing more activities, including additional micro-credential courses, workshops, student exchanges, and conferences.
